🛩️ West African government VIP jets on the rise, Global 6500 movements jump to 152
The West African government VIP jet segment has shown notable strength over the past three months, with further concentration in the leading aircraft type. Avi-Go data shows that during the roughly 90-day period from May 8 to August 6, 2026, after excluding mixed-in regular scheduled 737 flights, the region recorded a combined 222 VIP large-aircraft movements in and out (109 departures, 113 arrivals), a marked increase from approximately 86 movements on a pure-VIP basis in the same period last year. Among these, Global 6500 movements rose from 57 to 152, an increase of 167%, accounting for 68.5% of large VIP aircraft in this period, while ACJ A319 movements likewise grew from 6 to 66. Departures centered on Accra DGAA (34) and Lagos DNMM (20) as core hubs. Regional business aviation was broadly active during the same period, with Lagos DNMM totaling 3,079 movements and Abuja DNAA 2,492. This trend aligns with government VIP procurement developments, such as Mali purchasing a new BBJ for its president.
Impact: West African government travel demand is concentrating on ultra-long-range aircraft types such as the Global 6500, bringing steady VIP reception and support demand to FBOs and ground service providers with local handling capabilities.
