Warsaw Business Jet Movements Drop 37.6%

⚠️ Warsaw Traffic Contracts by More Than 30% Over 92 Days

On September 10, 2026, Poland began implementing a three-month low-altitude flight restriction along its borders with Ukraine and Belarus to provide additional operating space for air defense systems. The measures will remain in effect through December 9, 2026. Because the restriction took effect only on the final day of the statistical window, the preceding change in Warsaw’s movements should be assessed separately from this event. Avi-Go data show that from June 11 to September 10, 2026, business aircraft movements at Warsaw Chopin Airport fell from 1,520 in the preceding 92-day period to 948, a decline of 37.6%. Over the same period, movements at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport decreased from 2,054 to 1,736, down 15.5%, while those at Václav Havel Airport Prague increased from 3,691 to 3,714, up 0.6%. Combined movements across the three airports declined by 11.9%. In terms of international business aircraft traffic in the second quarter of 2026, Warsaw recorded 937 movements, below Prague’s 3,416 and Budapest’s 2,022. The top five destination countries for international departures from Warsaw were France with 64 movements, Germany with 59, Italy with 55, the United Kingdom with 32, and the Czech Republic with 30.

Impact: Warsaw recorded 572 fewer movements between the two 92-day windows, indicating that mission planning centered on the airport must contend with more pronounced short-term traffic fluctuations. Meanwhile, the low-altitude restriction effective from September 10 increases the likelihood of last-minute route and operational adjustments for border-related missions. Prague remained above 3,700 movements during the same period, with comparatively stable demand for ground handling services.

Recommendation: Operators flying missions to Warsaw should continue checking low-altitude restrictions and route notices for eastern Poland through December 9, 2026, and prepare alternative routes and diversion plans for key international markets such as France, Germany, and Italy. Going forward, attention should focus on Warsaw’s movement figures after September 11 to distinguish pre-existing traffic changes from operational performance following the implementation of the restriction.
