✈️ Seoul Business Aviation Demand Surges: Q1 Movements Up 46% Year-on-Year, March Sets Single-Month Record
Avi-Go data shows that combined business aviation movements at Seoul Gimpo and Incheon airports reached 332 in Q1 2026, representing a 46.3% year-on-year increase from 227 movements in the same period of 2025. Growth was concentrated in March, with 150 movements in that single month — a 72.4% year-on-year spike — accounting for 45.2% of the quarter's total volume, reflecting a pronounced end-of-quarter surge pattern. In terms of route structure, Tokyo remained the top departure destination, with 33 outbound flights in Q1 2026 compared to 20 in Q1 2025, a 65% increase. Beijing, Hong Kong, and Taipei also recorded simultaneous growth. Notably, Shanghai dropped out of the top ten departure destinations in Q1 2026 after ranking third in Q1 2025 with 13 flights, indicating a clear structural divergence in China-Korea business travel patterns. At the same time, domestic short-haul demand expanded in parallel, with Muan and Pohang each recording 23 flights and entering the top three departure destinations, signaling that Seoul business aviation demand is no longer confined to international business scenarios.
Impact: The 65% surge in Tokyo route demand indicates that the Seoul-Tokyo corridor is becoming the most active cross-border business aviation route in Northeast Asia, and operators and charter brokers will face significantly increased pressure in coordinating slot resources and ground handling on this route. The sharp decline in Shanghai flight volumes suggests that China-Korea business travel demand is being redistributed, requiring relevant operators to reassess route prioritization.
Recommendation: Operators and FBOs should prioritize securing slot resources on the Seoul-Tokyo route ahead of Q2 2026, and coordinate ground handling capacity with Tokyo counterparts in advance to accommodate sustained high-frequency demand growth. For emerging domestic destinations such as Muan and Pohang, it is recommended to simultaneously assess ground service coverage capabilities in order to capture incremental market opportunities in short-haul business charter.
