🛬 Commercial Home Base Squeezes Business Jets: SBGR Slots Rapidly Yield to SBSP
São Paulo Guarulhos (SBGR), as a commercial aviation home base, is seeing its business jet slots continuously pushed out by commercial capacity. Avi-Go data shows that from January 1 to May 31, 2026, SBGR business jet movements totaled 2,493, down 21.6% from 3,178 in the same period of 2025, with the daily average dropping from 21.0 to 16.5 movements. Over the same period, São Paulo Congonhas (SBSP) declined only 8.2% (5,089 vs 5,545 movements). The gap in decline between the two airports exceeds 13 percentage points, indicating that business jet activity is concentrating at the single point of SBSP.
Impact: SBGR business jet slots may continue to contract as commercial capacity is prioritized in allocation, and operators relying on the airport's FBO and ground services face slot availability risk. As capacity concentrates at SBSP, pressure on parking stands and ground handling during peak hours at that airport will intensify.
Recommendation: Operators dependent on SBGR should lock in priority movement windows before the slot coordination window for the 2026 fourth-quarter winter-spring season. At the same time, they should assess parking and FBO resources at SBSP as an alternative main base to avoid ground turnaround delays caused by peak-season congestion.
