🏔️ Lima Business Jet Traffic Spikes Then Retreats, Domestic Segments Dominate the Market
The 27th World Mining Congress will be held in Lima in June 2026, attracting more than 5,500 attendees, and coupled with capacity expansions by Fortuna and Antofagasta, mining finance sentiment is heating up. However, business jet traffic has not seen a sustained increase in tandem. Avi-Go data shows that Lima SPJC recorded a cumulative 457 business jet movements from January 2026 to date, peaking in March through April (88→93 movements) before declining month over month, dropping to 63 movements in June. Peru's domestic segments dominate (159 departures), while on the international front, the United States leads with 52 movements. Only 4 operators have been identified, totaling 105 movements, with Panorama Jets (46) and Atsa (26) dominating locally, and VistaJet ranking third among identified operators (17 movements). About 77% of movements are not attributed to a named operator, being primarily charter passengers and private owner-operators.
Impact: The pull of mining travel demand on SPJC business jet traffic can only be inferred indirectly. The lack of named operator attribution means that local charter passengers and private owner-operators are the main force, standardized charter penetration is low, leaving an open market for international operators.
Recommendation: VistaJet and regional charter operators can pilot point-to-point charter products targeting Peru's mining finance clientele in Q3 2026, focusing on capturing the already active international segments from Lima to the United States, Chile, and Argentina. FBOs should pay attention to the temporary peaks during the annual mining activity window and deploy ground support resources in advance.
