🛬 Kigali Arrival Surge Drives Growth, Highlighting East African Destination Status

Arrival flights have become the sole engine of growth for business aviation activity in Kigali. Avi-Go data shows that over the past 90 days (May 5 to August 3, 2026), business jet movements at Kigali HRYR totaled 72, up 12.5% year-on-year (an increase of 8 movements); of these, arrivals reached 43, a substantial 38.7% year-on-year increase, contributing all the growth, while departures at 29 actually declined 12.1%. The arrival-to-departure structure shifted from a roughly balanced 33:31 in the same period last year to a clearly arrival-weighted 43:29. Top destinations were predominantly within Africa, with Nairobi leading at 6 flights, followed closely by Johannesburg at 4 and Lagos at 3, while Dubai and Doha at 3 and 2 respectively made up the main Middle East directions.

Impact: Kigali's appeal as a regional business aviation destination is strengthening, and demand for ground handling services and arrival support is rising accordingly; FBO and ground handling resource allocation needs to tilt toward the arrival segment.

Recommendation: Local Rwandan FBOs and ground handlers should assess parking stand availability and rapid customs clearance capacity during arrival time slots before Q4 2026, focusing on matching the landing support demand of high-frequency intra-African routes such as Nairobi and Johannesburg.
