⚠️ Persian Gulf Six Major Airports See Cliff-Edge Business Aviation Traffic Drop in March; Dubai Down Over 97% Month-on-Month

This marks the most severe single-month traffic disruption in the Persian Gulf business aviation market in recent years. Avi-Go data shows extreme traffic contraction at major Gulf business aviation airports in March 2026: OMDB (Dubai International) recorded only 5 departures in March, down 97.6% from 209 in the same period of 2025; OMDW (Dubai South) plunged from 1,430 to 134 movements, down 90.6%; OTBD (Doha) fell from 189 to 18, down 90.5%; OBBI (Bahrain) dropped to zero in March, with only 5 movements recorded in the first 14 days of April. The collapse closely coincides with the regional security shock following the late-February outbreak of the Iran war. Notably, early divergence signals appeared in January–February: OMDW posted counter-trend growth of 20.5% in January 2026, suggesting some traffic had already been preemptively rerouted before the conflict escalated; Riyadh's OERK deteriorated steadily from January 2026, down 33.3% in January and widening to -58.8% in the first 14 days of April (from 400 to 165 movements).

Impact: The regional operational shutdown creates direct revenue pressure on operators and FBOs with stationed assets in the Gulf, with limited ability to fully offset losses through other markets in the near term. For long-haul Europe-Asia business aviation operations relying on Middle East routing, the rising costs of alternate planning and airspace deviation will be an ongoing burden.

Recommendations: Operators should complete contingency route assessments for Middle East alternatives before Q2 2026, incorporating Muscat (OOMS) or Amman (OJAM) into diversion plans. Fixed costs tied to Gulf operations — including parking agreements and crew positioning — should be renegotiated to avoid full-fee exposure on underutilized assets.
