✈️ European Business Aviation Suffers Counter-Seasonal Decline in April, Fuel Crisis Identified as Primary Driver
Avi-Go data reveals that major European business aviation markets experienced a rare counter-seasonal contraction in April 2026. Business jet movements in Germany totaled approximately 11,345 operations from April 1 to 26, down 21.2% month-over-month versus the equivalent period in March; the United Kingdom recorded approximately 9,895 operations, down 13.8% month-over-month; France recorded approximately 12,106 operations, down 5.8% month-over-month. Southern Europe was equally affected — Barcelona LEBL recorded 735 operations, down 19.5% month-over-month versus March and down 17.7% year-over-year versus April 2025; Milan LIML recorded 1,570 operations, down 10.9% month-over-month and down 15.3% year-over-year. By comparison, LEBL posted only a marginal month-over-month decline of 0.3% and LIML grew 13.5% month-over-month during the same period in 2025, making the 2026 trajectory a complete departure from historical norms. According to AIN, Titan Aviation Fuels publicly warned on April 22, 2026 of fuel shortage risks across Europe; European benchmark jet fuel prices have risen to $1,838 per metric ton, and the NATO CEPS pipeline's military priority status is further constraining civilian supply. EBAA also announced on April 10 the cancellation of EBACE 2026 in Geneva.
Impact: Surging fuel costs are being passed through to clients via surcharges, directly suppressing discretionary flight demand and placing operators under dual margin pressure. The cancellation of EBACE, compounded by declining business jet movements, will create a near-term revenue gap for FBO ground service providers and aviation show-related supply chains.
Recommendation: Operators should complete price-lock hedging arrangements for summer jet fuel procurement before the end of May 2026, and prioritize evaluation of alternative fuel supply nodes to mitigate single-source supply chain risk. FBOs and ground service providers can use this window to proactively offer fuel package agreements to high-frequency clients, exchanging price certainty for volume stability.
