Chongqing Leads China's Interior Markets; Chengdu Rebounds, Wuhan Lags

📈 Chongqing Business Aviation Q1 Growth Hits 27.6%, Divergence Deepens Across Three Central-Western Cities

Growth momentum in China's central-western business aviation market is concentrating in Chongqing. Avi-Go data shows ZUCK recorded the highest growth rate among the three cities in both full-year 2025 (120→139 movements, +15.8%) and Q1 2026 (58→74 movements, +27.6%), with the pace continuing to accelerate. Chengdu ZUUU leads in volume but shows volatility: after a full-year 2025 decline of 8.6% (418→382 movements), it rebounded strongly in Q1 2026 to 179 movements (+16.2%), with the Falcon 7X emerging as one of the more active aircraft types (14 movements). Note that Chengdu Tianfu International Airport ZUTF is now operational and may have absorbed some business aviation activity, meaning Shuangliu single-airport figures likely understate Chengdu's total market. Wuhan ZHHH shows a sharp reversal: following moderate full-year 2025 growth of 11.2% (134→149 movements), Q1 2026 dropped to 38 movements (-25.5%). All three cities are dominated by large long-range types — G550, G650ER, Global 6000 — confirming that long-haul business travel remains the core demand driver across the region.

Implications: Chongqing's sustained acceleration is placing greater pressure on local FBO capacity and ramp handling; if growth continues into Q2 2026, ground service bottlenecks will become a constraining factor. Wuhan's sharp single-quarter decline warrants monitoring — if Q2 2026 shows no recovery, it may reflect a structural demand shift rather than seasonal noise.

Recommendations: Operators should assess capacity allocation on Chongqing routes ahead of Q2 2026, prioritizing additional basing of medium- to long-range aircraft. For Wuhan, expansion plans should be paused until Q2 2026 data clarifies the trend before committing further resources.
