✈️ Smaller Fleet, Undiminished Flying: Challenger 350 Per-Aircraft Utilization Continues to Climb

Avi-Go data shows that from January to May 2026, the global active Challenger 350 fleet contracted from 559 aircraft in the same period of 2025 to 515 aircraft, a reduction of 7.9%. Yet global business aviation movements for the type rose counter-cyclically from 115,526 to 117,296 operations over the same period, a year-over-year increase of 1.5%. April's single-month performance was particularly notable, with movements up 4.4% year-over-year. The same trend is confirmed on the Praetor 600: the active fleet edged down from 124 to 121 aircraft (-2.4%), while movements climbed from 22,838 to 23,284, a gain of 2.0%, with April alone posting a 7.5% increase. The inverse relationship between fleet size and flight volume directly demonstrates that per-aircraft utilization among in-service aircraft is rising in a systemic manner. Meanwhile, global available pre-owned inventory is down 11% year-over-year, with aircraft under five years of age posting a decline of 37%. Elevated utilization continues to suppress owner willingness to sell, creating a positive feedback loop between tightening supply and robust demand.

Impact: For operators, a shrinking fleet sustaining unchanged flying intensity means maintenance support pressure is concentrated across fewer airframes, increasing AOG risk exposure. For the pre-owned market, continued inventory tightening will further underpin asset valuations for the CL350 and P600, narrowing buyer negotiating leverage.

Recommendation: Operators should complete a preventive maintenance scheduling review for their in-service CL350 fleets before the third quarter of 2026, to avoid a backlog of aircraft on ground caused by high utilization compounding the summer peak season. Buyers intending to acquire a pre-owned CL350 or P600 are advised to move quickly to secure a target aircraft, as the window for waiting on a natural market correction is closing.
