Separate from A3-001, Saab is developing two flying technology demonstrators, A1 and A2, under Swedish government funding. A1 is expected to fly approximately 15 months after the August 21 briefing, pointing to late 2027, using the GE Aerospace F414 afterburning turbofan also found in the Gripen E/F, giving it confirmed supersonic performance. A1 has an internal weapons bay, though Saab does not plan weapons-release trials from it. A2 will test additional materials, sensors, and other advanced technologies. Saab envisions a combat architecture pairing GlobalEye for wide-area surveillance, Gripen E for tactical command, and ACP aircraft operating forward with sensors, jammers, or weapons, and has indicated ACP could operate alongside aircraft other than Gripen. Saab reported on June 11, 2025 that it had completed three Gripen E flights integrating Helsing's Centaur AI agent, the first on May 28, 2025, during which Centaur controlled the aircraft in a beyond-visual-range environment and cued the pilot to fire. On March 23, 2026, Saab and Toronto-based Cohere announced a memorandum of understanding covering AI collaboration on the GlobalEye platform for mission support, information processing, and maintenance applications.
