Archer Aviation was founded in 2018 in California and is led by CEO Adam Goldstein, with more than 1,100 employees. In November 2024, Archer and Soracle signed a memorandum of understanding that includes purchase rights for up to 100 Midnight units. Soracle plans to launch commercial operations primarily in the Osaka Bay area, with agreements in place with the Osaka prefectural and city governments and with Osaka Metro for use of the OSAKAKO vertiport. The JAL-led consortium was also selected for Tokyo's eVTOL implementation project, Phase 1 running 2025 to 2027, with the Midnight designated as the aircraft, targeting commercial urban operations by 2030. Archer is also pursuing a restricted type certificate in the United Arab Emirates.
