UK charter operator Zenith Aviation was declared insolvent on 21 May 2026, becoming the latest case of stress in the UK aviation operations market — during the same period, Ascend Airways also surrendered its UK AOC and returned its fleet. Avi-Go data shows that combined charter movements at the four major UK business aviation airports (EGLF/EGSS/EGGW/EGKB) totalled 25,655 operations from 1 January to 25 May 2026, a year-on-year decline of 4.6%, representing a reduction of approximately 1,251 movements. The departure side recorded a steeper drop of 5.1%, indicating a more pronounced contraction on the demand side.
Impact: For charter buyers, the financial health of operators has become a risk dimension that cannot be overlooked when selecting service providers — particularly for small and mid-sized AOC holders reliant on a single aircraft type or small fleet, whose resilience is limited in an environment of sharply rising fuel costs.
