✈️ Signature European FBO Network Splits North-South: London Luton Down 18.4%, Milan and Madrid Up Over 10%
Signature Aviation recently announced a partnership with Sixt car rental across 31 European FBO locations — but behind this expansion, its core European network is telling two very different stories. Avi-Go data shows Q1 2026 combined bizjet movements at the five key FBO airports totaled 27,768, down 3.1% year-on-year. The divergence is stark: London Luton plunged from 5,028 to 4,105 movements (-18.4%), while Paris Le Bourget fell 9.9% from 10,943 to 9,862 — both traditional northern hubs weakening in tandem. In contrast, Milan Linate rose 11.1% to 4,971, Madrid Barajas gained 12.6% to 3,732, and Zurich posted a modest 4.3% gain. Southern and Central European demand recovery provides genuine traffic support for the Sixt partnership, but the sustained contraction at northern hubs raises questions about whether Signature's resource allocation in the UK and French markets warrants reassessment.
Impact: Traffic declines at Luton and Le Bourget will likely compress ground handling revenue and parking fees at those FBOs, narrowing the monetization potential of Sixt's value-added services in both markets. Meanwhile, growth in Milan and Madrid may push southern European FBOs toward greater pressure on staffing and ground handling capacity.
Recommendation: Signature should prioritize Sixt service rollout at Milan Linate and Madrid Barajas, advancing service standardization in high-growth markets first. In parallel, demand-side research at Luton and Le Bourget should determine whether the traffic decline reflects structural shift or seasonal fluctuation — informing any decision to rebalance operational resource allocation.
