Show Optimism Meets German Market Cooldown

✈️ Aero Expo Touts Europe's Largest, Yet German Domestic Movements Quietly Decline

Aero Friedrichshafen announced on June 18, 2026 that it had become Europe's largest business aviation trade show, and designated 2027 as a year of continued growth. However, its optimistic outlook stands in clear contrast to the actual trend in domestic German business aviation activity. Avi-Go data shows that Germany recorded a cumulative 84,571 movements from January 1 to June 22, 2026, a decrease of 5,174 from the 89,745 movements in the same period of 2025, a year-on-year decline of 5.76% (departures -5.83%, arrivals -5.70%). Munich EDDM led with 5,436 movements and Berlin EDDB with 5,354 movements, with a minimal gap between the two. Argus also noted that global activity growth had slowed to approximately 3.1% in May, with June appearing even weaker.

Impact: The narrative of expanding show scale diverges from the reality of a moderate decline in the domestic market, which may amplify exhibitors' misjudgment of German demand. If FBOs and operators prepare production and capacity based on the show's optimistic outlook, there is a risk of idle capacity.

Recommendation: Before the third quarter of 2026, exhibitors and operators should calibrate German market expectations against actual movement data, avoiding planning based solely on show scale. They may prioritize allocating resources to the two stable hubs of Munich and Berlin, and reference markets such as France, the UK, and Italy, which still maintain double-digit YTD growth, to hedge against domestic weakness.
