✈️ Pilatus Bets $50M on U.S. Expansion, but Fleet Surge Raises Utilization Concerns
Pilatus is accelerating its U.S. expansion strategy, yet a growing gap has quietly emerged between fleet growth and actual flight demand. According to AIN, Pilatus broke ground in April 2026 on a new delivery center and manufacturing engineering facility at KBJC airport in Broomfield, Colorado, representing a $50 million investment. That same month, Cutter Aviation opened a Pilatus authorized service center at the same airport, focused on PC-12 and PC-24 maintenance. Data from Avi-Go shows that the active U.S. fleet of PC-12/PC-24 aircraft expanded from 648 to 808 aircraft, a 24.7% increase, while total business aviation operations at the airport grew only from 141,493 to 145,471 movements over the same period, a mere 2.8% rise. Average business aviation movements per aircraft declined from approximately 218 to approximately 180, a drop of 17.5%. The PC-24 now accounts for 11.3% of the active fleet, with jet-type penetration continuing to accelerate, but overall demand absorption capacity is lagging noticeably behind the pace of deliveries.
