✈️ PE Platform Play Bets on AirSprint, 44-Aircraft Fleet Surges to Peak in Q2

Private equity giants are accelerating their positioning in business aviation fractional ownership assets. Onex Partners and TriWest Capital Partners announced in Canada on June 25, 2026 the acquisition of AirSprint, the country's largest fractional ownership operator, with a fleet of approximately 44 aircraft, serving over 600 owners, and ranking eighth in North America by flight hours. Founder Macor will transition to Honorary Chairman, while CEO Elian will remain and retain equity, with the transaction expected to close in Q3 2026. Avi-Go data shows that AirSprint accumulated approximately 11,483 flights from January 1 to July 5, 2026, bottoming out at 1,093 flights in March before rebounding strongly, climbing to a year-to-date peak of 2,449 flights in June, with sustained volume growth in Q2. The fleet is highly concentrated by type, with the CJ3+ accounting for nearly half of operations at 5,890 flights, and the network anchored by two major hubs—Toronto CYYZ (937 flights) and Calgary CYYC (851 flights).

Impact: A stable owner client base combined with early-summer volume growth provides high-quality assets with predictable cash flow for PE platform consolidation. The overconcentration of a single type, the CJ3+, means that subsequent fleet diversification and capacity expansion will become key to value creation following the acquisition.

Recommendation: Fractional ownership peers and brokers should closely track AirSprint's fleet procurement and route expansion signals around the Q3 2026 transaction closing, and move early to secure supply and ground handling partnerships at the Toronto and Calgary dual hubs. OEMs can proactively engage during the second half of 2026 regarding the replacement and augmentation window for its mainstay CJ3+ fleet, competing for the bulk order opportunities generated by platform-driven expansion.
