🛥️ Nice Parking Resources Under Pressure Ahead of Yacht Show
The 2026 Monaco Yacht Show will take place from September 23 to September 26, and Nice Côte d’Azur Airport is a key gateway for associated business aviation traffic. In its rolling operational plan published on September 11, EUROCONTROL listed Nice Airport among the airports expected to see increased traffic during the event, while the relevant entry showed no reduction in capacity. Business aviation event information published on September 6 also required advance parking reservations at the relevant airports. Airport information released on September 12 further clarified that Monaco Heliport requires prior permission and operates during daytime hours, with slots pre-allocated during the event; these conditions apply to heliport operations. Avi-Go data show that from September 14 to September 20, Nice Airport recorded 413 business jet departures and 419 arrivals, totaling 832 movements. Compared with 533 departures, 516 arrivals, and 1,049 total movements from September 7 to September 13, these figures decreased by 120, 97, and 217 movements, respectively, representing declines of 22.5%, 18.8%, and 20.7%. At the airport level, each departure and each arrival is counted as one movement. Traffic during the full week preceding the event declined from the previous week, but the expected increase in traffic during the event and the parking reservation requirements have already been made clear, so parking resources must still be confirmed aircraft by aircraft for each specific mission.
Impact: Nice Airport’s pre-event baseline has declined from 1,049 to 832 movements per week, but EUROCONTROL expects traffic to increase from September 23 to September 26, meaning operators’ primary constraint will center on specific parking arrangements rather than published capacity indicators. Missions involving helicopter transfers to Monaco must also meet prior-permission, daytime-operation, and pre-allocated-slot requirements, and fixed-wing arrivals and departures at Nice must be coordinated with onward transfers.
Recommendation: Operators planning to support the Monaco Yacht Show should immediately confirm the parking reservation status of each aircraft with Nice Airport and align all arrival and departure arrangements from September 23 to September 26 with Monaco Heliport’s pre-allocated slots on an item-by-item basis. Subsequent monitoring should focus on actual business aircraft movements at Nice during the event and changes to parking arrangements, rather than basing operational plans solely on the fact that “no capacity reduction is indicated.”
