✈️ Mumbai Business Aviation Sees Volume and Value Rise Together, as Mid-to-Large Long-Range Aircraft Accelerate Their Dominance of the Market

Avi-Go data shows that Mumbai VABB airport recorded a cumulative 3,293 business aviation movements from January to April 2026, up 11.9% from 2,944 movements during the same period in 2025, approaching an all-time high. Growth was not evenly distributed — January and February posted strong gains of 19.9% and 17.2% respectively, March leveled off, and April returned to positive growth of 12%, indicating that demand has a degree of resilience rather than being a short-term pulse. Of greater note is the systematic shift in aircraft type mix: the Legacy 650 jumped from 5th to 2nd place in the Top 5 rankings (movements rising from 74 to 107), Global Express movements increased from 80 to 103, the Challenger 605 and Falcon 900EX entered the Top 5 as new entrants, while the Falcon 2000 and Global 6000 dropped off the list. At the same time, Empire Aviation Group and VistaJet have entered the top tier of operators, with international managed operators penetrating the market noticeably more deeply. By contrast, Delhi VIDP recorded a cumulative 3,052 movements over the same period, down a marginal 0.7% year-on-year, with a clear divergence between the two city markets.

Impact: The rising share of mid-to-large long-range aircraft means longer average turnaround times and greater fuel uplift volumes per movement, placing greater pressure on the handling capacity and ground resource allocation of Mumbai's local FBOs. The growing presence of international operators such as Empire Aviation Group and VistaJet will also intensify competition among local operators for high-end clients.

Recommendation: FBO and MRO service providers should complete a handling capability assessment for mid-to-large aircraft types (Global series, Legacy 650) before Q3 2026, prioritizing the addition of wide-body aircraft stands and heavy maintenance qualifications. Local operators should move promptly to review their existing client base and design customized managed aircraft solutions targeting the multi-base management needs of ultra-high-net-worth individuals, leveraging differentiated service offerings to counter the competitive pressure from international operators.
