✈️ Eight in Ten Business Aviation Movements at Mumbai Locked to Domestic Corridors, Gujarat Commanding Nearly One-Fifth
Avi-Go data shows that between May 8 and June 7, 2026, business aviation movements at Mumbai VABB airport totaled 754 operations, of which 636 were domestic, accounting for as much as 84%, while international movements stood at just 118. Domestic traffic is highly concentrated across three commercial corridors: the Gujarat industrial belt — comprising Ahmedabad (93 movements), Jamnagar (30 movements), and Surat (14 movements) — totaled 137 movements combined, representing 18.2% of all airport movements on its own and emerging as the single largest traffic source; New Delhi ranked second with 91 movements, followed by Bangalore at 64. On the international side, London entered the Top 15 in isolation with 18 movements, while all other international destinations remained highly dispersed, making it difficult to generate any scale effect. It is worth noting that this data covers VABB as a single airport only; business aviation operations in Mumbai also utilize Juhu Airport (VAJJ), meaning actual total market volume may be higher.
Impact: The dominance of short- to medium-haul domestic demand means that ground handling pressure at Mumbai FBOs is concentrated on the rapid turnaround capability for light and midsize jets and turboprops, rather than on ground service infrastructure for long-haul widebody aircraft. For charter operators, the high-frequency round-trip demand along the Gujarat industrial corridor already provides a market foundation for developing tailored business charter products; however, the fragmented nature of international routes also signals that cross-border operations are unlikely to generate stable revenue streams in the near term.
Recommendation: FBO operators may wish to prioritize, ahead of Q3 2026, an assessment of ramp space and rapid refueling resource allocation for light aircraft types such as the Phenom 300 and Citation CJ series, in order to match high-frequency short-haul domestic demand. Charter operators are advised to launch on-demand subscription or multi-leg bundled products in the second half of 2026 targeting high-frequency corridors such as Mumbai to Ahmedabad and New Delhi, leveraging frequency advantages to secure corporate clients.
