🌍 Diverging Source-Market Profiles at Morocco’s Two Major Gateways
Casablanca handled more business aircraft arrivals over the past 90 days, but the source-market rankings of the two gateways differed significantly. Avi-Go data show that from May 16 to August 14, 2026, Casablanca Mohammed V Airport (GMMN) recorded 382 business aircraft arrivals, approximately 36% more than the 281 arrivals at Marrakech Airport (GMMX). At Casablanca, domestic Moroccan sectors ranked first with 98 arrivals, followed closely by Spain with 89, France with 44, the United Kingdom with 24, and Portugal with 13, bringing the Top 5 total to 268 arrivals. At Marrakech, Spain led with 65 arrivals, accounting for 23.1% of all arrivals, followed by Morocco with 47, France with 31, the United Kingdom with 18, and Portugal with 15. The Top 5 totaled 176 arrivals, representing 62.6% of the total. Spain, France, the United Kingdom, and Portugal ranked among the Top 5 at both airports, indicating that the two gateways share source markets in the Iberian Peninsula and Western Europe, although domestic connectivity and international inbound traffic carry different weights.
Impact: Casablanca’s total of 382 arrivals, combined with Morocco ranking as its leading source, means its service demand is more concentrated on domestic connections and cross-border business travel. At Marrakech, Spain alone contributed 65 of the airport’s 281 arrivals, more directly influencing local VIP reception, resort transportation connections, and Spanish-language customer service staffing. The two airports should not design their products around the same customer segments.
Recommendation: Operators serving Casablanca can refine domestic transfer and cross-border itinerary connections around the key Morocco–Spain source-market combination, which generated a combined 187 arrivals. Marrakech FBOs can expand Western European language services and coordinate destination transfers for passengers from Spain, France, the United Kingdom, and Portugal, which together accounted for 129 arrivals. Going forward, operators should continue monitoring whether the source-country rankings at both airports remain consistent through late summer 2026.
