✈️ Miami F1 Race Week: KOPF Surges 44%, Fleet Mix Shifts Toward Mid-to-Large Cabin
During the 2025 Miami F1 Grand Prix (May 1–5), combined bizjet movements at the four surrounding airports reached 2,965, up 22.2% from 2,427 the prior week, with gains heavily concentrated at two airports. Per Avi-Go data, KOPF recorded 1,294 movements vs. 899 the prior week (+43.9%), becoming the dominant traffic hub; KFLL and KTMB rose 22.8% and 22.5% respectively, while KFXE bucked the trend with a 9.7% decline — a clear sign of traffic siphoning by KOPF. Fleet mix shifted in parallel: the pre-race week was dominated by light jets (PC-12, Phenom 300, Learjet 60), while race week was led by mid-to-large cabin types including Phenom 300 (~136 movements), Challenger 350 (~134), Challenger 300 (~90), and Citation X (~79), reflecting a concentrated influx of HNWI travelers.
Implications: KOPF's siphon effect created extreme ramp scarcity during race week, significantly strengthening FBO pricing power. KFXE operators faced client diversion pressure and need to reassess resource allocation strategies for future race weeks.
Recommendations: The 2026 Miami F1 race is scheduled for May 1–3. FBOs and brokers should secure ramp slots and ground handling resources at KOPF and KFLL by mid-April 2026. KFXE operators should proactively engage clients on ground transport alternatives ahead of the event to mitigate traffic loss.
