🏝️ Ibiza Surges 7.4x in Summer, Spain's Four Mediterranean Airports Enter Peak-Season Congestion Window
Avi-Go data shows that from January to June 2026, business jet movements at Spain's four major resort airports climbed across the board. Ibiza LEIB soared from 309 movements in January to 2,288 in June, a nearly 7.4-fold increase over six months, with April's month-on-month gain of +149.5% being the most dramatic, and June's single-month figure of 2,288 movements topping the peak among the four airports. Over the same period, Palma LEPA led in total volume with a cumulative 7,646 movements, but its June month-on-month growth had slowed to +6.0%. Malaga LEMG accumulated 6,478 movements over six months with moderate growth, while Barcelona LEBL, as a mixed business-and-leisure hub, had the highest January baseline at 962 movements. All four airports bottomed out in February, rebounded in March, and generally jumped in April.
Impact: LEIB's exceptionally steep climbing curve means that ground parking stands, slots, and FBO handling capacity will face concentrated pressure during the July–August peak season, with congestion risk especially pronounced on weekends. Meanwhile, LEPA's slowing growth suggests its peak-season capacity may already be approaching its saturation ceiling.
Recommendation: Operators should complete bookings to lock in weekend slots and overnight parking stands at LEIB and LEPA before July 10, 2026. FBOs should add peak-season ground staff and fuel support before mid-July and forecast peak-day delay risks to clients.
