Eclipse 500/550 Fleet Faces Airworthiness Cliff as Sole Parts Supplier Liquidates

✈️ Eclipse Fleet Parts Supply Crisis: Sole Supplier Enters Liquidation, Airworthiness of 260 Aircraft in Question

The Eclipse 500/550 fleet is facing a potentially irreversible supply chain cliff. On May 21, 2026, RAS, the sole structural component supplier for the Eclipse 500/550 series, announced it would liquidate and close, with plans to destroy all production tooling. No company or investor has publicly stepped forward to acquire its tooling or intellectual property. Avi-Go data shows that the active global Eclipse 500 fleet held between 93 and 118 aircraft from January through April 2026, averaging approximately 104.8 aircraft over those four months — essentially flat compared to the 101.3 average for the same period in 2025. However, May figures dropped sharply to 95 aircraft, a month-over-month decline of 19.5% from April. The timing of this contraction aligns closely with the RAS liquidation announcement, and early signs of fleet shrinkage are already emerging. Ownership of the Eclipse type has changed hands multiple times since the bankruptcy of Eclipse Aviation, and a stable supply chain ecosystem has never taken hold. Should the tooling be destroyed, critical structural components will be permanently unavailable, posing a substantive long-term airworthiness threat to approximately 260 in-service aircraft, with residual fleet values potentially accelerating toward zero.

Impact: For current owners, the permanent closure of parts supply channels will directly compress the sustainable operating lifespan of these aircraft and trigger repricing by insurance underwriters and financing institutions. For the MRO market, a window for PMA alternative parts development is opening, but time is extremely limited.

Recommendation: Owners should complete a parts inventory audit by the end of June 2026, assess whether existing stock can support airworthiness maintenance requirements over the next 3 to 5 years, and simultaneously initiate feasibility evaluations for retirement or resale. MRO providers and parts developers should contact RAS immediately to explore the possibility of acquiring tooling or intellectual property before liquidation is finalized, so as not to miss the only remaining window to preserve these critical technical assets.
