🛬 Medellín Business Jet Movements Up 21.4%, With Two Different Patterns Behind Bogotá's Slight Decline
Colombia's two leading airports are following different trajectories in 2026: the established hub holds steady with a slight decline, while the emerging secondary center climbs rapidly. Avi-Go data shows that from the start of 2026 through July 28, Bogotá El Dorado (SKBO) recorded 4,082 business jet movements, down 4.0% from the same period in 2025 (a decrease of 169 movements); over the same period, Medellín José María Córdova (SKRG) logged 1,076 movements, up 21.4% year-on-year (an increase of 190 movements), bringing the two airports to a combined total of 5,158 movements. The structural differences are even more pronounced: SKBO is top-heavy, with Searca leading singly at 414 movements, followed closely by Helistar at 287; at SKRG, the top four—Panorama Jets and Helistar at 78 each, SARPA at 76, and Searca at 75—show an even distribution with no dominant player.
Impact: SKRG's growth and balanced landscape indicate that business jet demand in Medellín is expanding, and no single operator can monopolize the market; although SKBO has declined slightly, Searca's leading position remains solid, giving it strong capacity pricing power.
Recommendation: Operators and FBOs targeting the Medellín market should complete their capacity and ground handling resource deployment before the fourth quarter of 2026 to seize the window before a dominant player emerges; operators deeply established in Bogotá can assess reallocating some surplus capacity to SKRG to hedge against the risk of flattening demand at SKBO.
