✈️ Business Aviation Traffic Climbs at Chengdu Shuangliu, Hong Kong Route Quietly Breaks Into Top Three

Avi-Go data shows that business aviation movements at Chengdu Shuangliu Airport (ZUUU) reached 246 operations from January to April 2026, up approximately 12.8% from around 218 operations during the same period in 2025. April's single-month total of 71 operations marked the peak month within the tracked period, reflecting continued momentum. The destination mix has also undergone a structural shift worth noting: Hong Kong entered the top three destinations for the first time in 2026 with 13 operations, having not even ranked in the top five during the same period in 2025; Sanya rose to second place with 14 operations; while Shenzhen slipped from second in 2025 with 25 operations to fifth in 2026 with 11 operations. On the operator side, Lily Jet retained the top position but saw movements decline from 86 in 2025 to 70 in 2026, while Comlux Aviation and Amber Aviation newly entered the rankings, indicating a modest increase in operator diversity. It should be noted that Hong Kong accounted for only 13 of the 246 total operations, representing a relatively small base, and the statistical significance of destination ranking shifts should be interpreted with caution.

Impact: The emergence of Hong Kong-bound demand signals strengthened cross-border business travel connectivity from Chengdu as a western hub. For FBOs and ground handlers operating in Sichuan, the capability to support long-range widebody aircraft types will become a key differentiating variable. The relative decline of Shenzhen also signals to operators that the route structure between Southwest China and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is quietly being reconfigured.

Recommendation: Operators and brokers are advised to conduct capacity pre-screening for Hong Kong and Macao departures out of Chengdu before May 2026, prioritizing the securing of widebody aircraft slots. FBOs and ground handlers are recommended to assess, before Q3 2026, whether existing support resources at Shuangliu are adequate to meet incremental demand from long-range sectors, and to deploy corresponding ground support capabilities in advance.
