✈️ Baku Leads South Caucasus in Business Aviation Traffic, YTD Up 40.9%
Avi-Go data shows that from January 1 to July 21, 2026, business jet movements at Baku Heydar Aliyev Airport (UBBB) reached 2,219 (1,114 departures, 1,105 arrivals), a 40.9% increase (+644 movements) over 1,575 in the same period of 2025. Both traffic volume and growth rate exceeded Tbilisi's (UGTB) 914 movements and 23.2% year-on-year growth. In terms of departure structure, the top destination for both was Turkey (Baku 142 movements, Tbilisi 48), but Baku's destinations were more internationalized, with the UK at 86, Spain 68, Kazakhstan 60, the UAE 49, and Switzerland 44 leading the way; Tbilisi leaned toward regional neighbors, with Russia at 45, Kazakhstan 34, and Azerbaijan 31 following closely.
Impact: Baku is strengthening its position as an energy business and intercontinental transit gateway, with concentrated demand for long-haul European and Gulf routes. This is more favorable for operators and FBOs with large business jet support and intercontinental fuel replenishment capabilities.
Recommendation: Operators serving Baku's European and Gulf routes should assess UBBB transit support and ground handling resource allocation before Q4 2026. Brokers can position charter capacity in advance for the Baku–Turkey and Baku–UK/Spain segments to capture the second-half business travel peak.
