🧭 Two Commuter Operators Account for 88% of Route Flight Activity

High-frequency flights between Hoolehua and Honolulu are primarily operated by commuter carriers using turboprop aircraft, a structure that differs significantly from the traditional business jet market. Avi-Go data show that from August 17 to September 15, 2026, a total of 481 flights were completed between PHMK and PHNL, including 238 flights from PHMK to PHNL and 243 in the opposite direction. Southern Airways Express and Westair Charter contributed 221 and 203 flights, respectively, totaling 424 flights and accounting for 88.1% of the route’s flight activity. The aircraft-type distribution further confirms this structure: the Cessna 208 recorded 221 flights, while the Cessna 408 SkyCourier recorded 154, for a combined 375 flights. The Pilatus PC-12 and King Air 90 recorded 55 and 28 flights, respectively, while the specifically listed Challenger 604 recorded only 3 flights.

Impact: The 481 flights represent the total scale of mixed operations on the PHMK–PHNL route, with the two commuter operators and the Cessna 208 and 408 accounting for the majority. If the total is used directly to estimate business jet demand, charter sales potential, or airport business aviation support volumes, commuter and regional operations would significantly distort the market assessment. For charter brokers, the customer use cases and product pricing associated with the 3 Challenger 604 flights also differ from those of high-frequency commuter flights.

Recommendation: When conducting capacity or sales analyses for PHMK–PHNL, the 221 flights operated by Southern Airways Express and the 203 flights operated by Westair Charter should first be separated, with distinct measurement categories established for the Cessna 208, Cessna 408, and business jets. Going forward, the absolute flight volumes of jet types such as the Challenger 604 should be monitored continuously, rather than using the total of 481 flights as the baseline for traditional business aviation demand.
