Development-finance backing for light-driven SAF technology signals institutional capital moving toward alternative aviation-fuel pathways as a core decarbonisation route for hard-to-electrify long-haul flight.
Sustainability investment is increasingly moving beyond corporate targets and into infrastructure, financing and resource-management decisions across major industries, spanning sustainable aviation fuel, renewable power for data centres, water management and natural-capital markets. In aviation, Syzygy Plasmonics and the International Finance Corporation have entered a framework agreement to explore sustainable aviation fuel projects across Latin America, assessing potential projects using Syzygy's light-driven technology and examining opportunities for project development and financing. Aviation remains one of the harder sectors to decarbonise because batteries and direct electrification are not yet suitable for most long-haul commercial flights, making sustainable aviation fuels a principal pathway for reducing the sector's emissions.

Separately, ENGIE has signed a 48-megawatt solar power purchase agreement with data-centre operator QTS in Texas, with electricity from the Lubio Solar project set to support QTS's expanding infrastructure as AI-driven demand for computing capacity grows. Water-technology company Gradiant is expanding its focus on data centres and semiconductor facilities in the United States, where water use and wastewater treatment are becoming key concerns, while countries including Kenya, South Africa and Nigeria are weighing data-centre expansion against available electricity, water resources and transmission networks. The United States Department of Agriculture has also proposed changes to protections governing designated roadless areas within national forests, citing wildfire management and forest stewardship, while critics have raised concerns about timber extraction and road construction, and Malaysia's Sabah state is exploring a 'Carbon Value State' concept to place greater economic value on forests, biodiversity and carbon resources.
