Typhoon Saudel, located 1,950 kilometers east of Extreme Northern Luzon as of Sunday afternoon, carried maximum sustained winds of 165 kph and gusts up to 205 kph, moving northwestward at 30 kph, and is expected to enter the area on Monday, possibly intensifying to super typhoon strength before doing so; it is forecast to remain far from the Philippine landmass and exit by Tuesday. Varilla said the southwest monsoon is expected to strengthen from Wednesday through the weekend, bringing a higher chance of rain. A tropical depression located 1,265 km east of Southeastern Luzon, with winds of 55 kph and gusts to 70 kph, may follow a path similar to Saudel's, and its entry into the area cannot be ruled out. Tropical Depression Gaeneri, formerly Neneng, was last located 520 km north of Itbayat, Batanes, and no longer has direct effects on the Philippines.
