KBR has been awarded a contract by KazMunayGas-Aero LLP, a subsidiary of NC KazMunayGas JSC, and KazFoodProducts for Kazakhstan's first Sustainable Aviation Fuel production plant. Under the contract, KBR will license its proprietary PureSAF technology, invented and developed by Swedish Biofuels AB, and provide proprietary engineering design for the facility, which will use the alcohol-to-jet process to produce aviation fuel from alcohol-based feedstocks, including domestically produced agricultural feedstocks.

The project supports a directive by the President of Kazakhstan to transform the country into an international aviation hub with strong transit potential and aims to integrate local agricultural feedstocks into low-carbon fuel production value chains. Jay Ibrahim, President of KBR Sustainable Technology Solutions, said KBR is honored to support KMG-Aero and KFP in advancing the national commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, describing PureSAF as a feed-flexible, bankable technology designed to deliver high SAF yields across the project's full lifecycle.
