The pilot attempted to slow the aircraft upon recognizing the construction zone but was unable to avoid the equipment and materials on the runway. One occupant was transported by ambulance to Teton Valley Hospital and was subsequently released. Driggs-Reed's runway had been temporarily shortened to 3,850 feet following damage beneath the pavement that required repair work. Construction began on August 5, with airport notices indicating that the southwest 3,451 feet of the runway was closed. The incident occurred nine days after construction work began. The FAA and NTSB have launched an investigation and are working with the City of Driggs and its consulting project engineer to determine how the aircraft came to use the closed portion of the runway.
